President’s Report

As President of St. Joseph’s Alumni Association, Papar, I welcome you to this Annual General Meeting (AGM ) 2010 and thank you for your support. This meeting is held in pursuant to Article No. 7, Section ( 1 ) of the Association’s Constitution.

We started our tenure with the same original objectives of desiring :-

(i) To increase the Alumni’s Life Membership;

(ii) To improve its Financial Position;

(iii) To assist our Alma Mater; and

(iv) To help realize the building of a new St. Joseph’s Secondary School
      Complex.

In creating awareness among ex-students regarding the existence of the Association, it seems to be proven successful by the good turnout on the Alumni’s 26th Anniversary cum Reunion Dinner held at the Grand Port View Restaurant, KK on 19 December 2009. And also, on the recruitment of the SPM students’ of St. Joseph’s School held on 12 November 2009, where 143 pupils became members. We would be very happy if more ex-students would become Life Members.

I would like to record too, my deep appreciation to my Exco Members for their hard work in making sure whatever project the Alumni carried out, it would be done well. Without their support, it would not be possible to do so. Once again, thank you very much.

I am please to report that the year 2009 had been an eventful year notably the milestone we had created for our Association in setting up our own blog http://stjosephalumnipapar.blogspot.com/ to make it easier for members to get information on what is happening within the Alumni and also to read our newsletter online. Also we had completed the form of the Life Membership Card. But it would take sometime before we can issue them to members. Due to the need of having to first, process all particulars. Briefly the activities of the Association are as follows:-

Activities

1. Six Exco meeting were held

2. President and Exco members visit to Istana to wish TYT

Although the activities were less, the Alumni felt that it has done its best, considering 2009 had been a very busy year for everyone.

T   H   E     H   A   P   P   E   N   I   N   G   S

7 May is D-day. It is election time again for the Alumni's office bearers. So hopefully, many life members of the Association will turn up. During its tenure, the Exco led by its President, Ir. John Anthony had done a good job. Among the Association's achievement is the  establishment of its own blog,   stjosephalumnipapar.blogspot.com  which has been operational since last year. And this has helped the Association to convey information to its members much more easily. Instant communication !  That's internet
power for you.

Exco members doing their Magunatip dance
and they looked so fierce. It's because their
minds have been infected by the AGM
                                                                             virus ! !

I am just joking. Seriously, dancing is a good form of exercise. Losing weight by the fun and enjoyable way.

And back to the Alumni's story again. For the  first time in the Association's history, it went on the ground to recruit new members. The target was the SPM students who would be leaving St. Joseph's  after their
examination. After the briefing by the Vice President, Mr. Kong Tsen Pean, one hundred and forty three
students signed up to become members.

Students lining up to fill the form

Nowadays, everything needs identification. And the Association have accepted a suggestion made by a member that we too should have one. It will be coming as mentioned in the President's Report to be presented in the AGM this coming Friday. This is how it looks:-

Once upon a time........!

- Ir. John Anthony,Alumni's President

Before you leave St. Joseph, join the Association first !

- Mr. Kong Tsen Pean, Vice President

I am so strong, the microphone has turned to ice cream !

Datuk Terence Chong - Immediate Past President

The best way to speak is to look down !

- Mr. Thomas Chong, Organising Chairman,
Alumni's 26th Anniversary cum Reunion Dinner 2009

Hey I think, I need a microphone too !

- Mr. Albert Tien, Advisor

Sorry, the above are wise sayings and below is the ID for the Associations' Life Members

Alumni's  Charitable Visit to San Damiano Hostel, Kiulu on Sunday, 25.7.2010

San Damiano's Hostel for boys and girls

The visit to the hostel was made on Sunday 25 July 2010 and was led by our Deputy President, Mr. Kong Tsen Pean ( as our President, Ir. John Anthony was not available due to official function ). The programme was co-ordinated by the Social Secretary, Ms. Mary Ho. Around 8.30am the members gathered at Mr. Kong's Coffee Shop at Kolombong. . About nine o' clock, the convoy left and proceeded to Tampuruli with a short break to enjoy its famous Tuaran mee. Continuing the journey, we reached San Damiano Hostel at about 11.30am.

Mr. Kong Tsen Pean, Alumni's Vice President presenting the gifts to Sr. Noami

the hostel was empty as the hosteliers and Sister Noami, Assistant In-charge were still at mass. Fortunately, the owner of the house opposite was a fruit seller and had a large stock of Taraps, Chempadaks and Pineapples. So we crossed over to buy the fruits. Never expecting the seller would cut some of the Chempadaks and Taraps for us to eat for free.

Finally the mass was over, the boys and girls returned. And the handing over of the food stuffs and basic necessities to Sister Noami were done at the hostel's hall. Mr. Kong Tsen Pean, our Vice President presented the major items, followed by Mr. Albert Tien, the Alumni's Advisor, Datin Margaret Chong, Exco member, the cup cakes and Mr. Robert Pan Exco member, the grass cutter donated by Datuk Kenneth Yen, an old boy of St. Joseph's Secondary School, Papar.

Mr.Thien Set Phin and family also donated bags of rice. With Mr. Thien himself handing them over to sister. While Mr., Michael Tan and friends gave chicken, pork and other items. The presentation was made by Mr. Kong Tsen Pean on their behalf ( as Mr. Michael Tan and friends had to leave earlier due to prior commitment ) to Sister Noami.

On behalf of SJAAP's Deputy President, the Secretary, Mr. Adrian Majaham speaking in Bahasa Malaysia thanked Sister for the hard work and sacrifice made by the Franciscan Nuns in providing accomodation for the students whose houses were far from school. He also emphasised to the the students that they must study hard in order to achieve their ambitions. Education is the key to success and they must strive with all their might to do so,

A student representing Sister Noami and the students thanked the generosity of The St. Joseph's Alumni Association, Papar led by Mr. Kong Tsen Pean representing the Preident, Ir. John Anthony, Mr. Thien Set Phin and family and Mr. Michael Tan and Friends. Only God will be able to reward you for your compassion and love. But on our part, we pledge to study hard so that we could achieve our goals and become useful citizens of this country.

The boys and girls presenting a song

The ceremony ended with a song and dance presenation by the students.
