the Grand Port View Kota Kinabalu on 19 December 2009

Josephians ........Josephians......Josephians.....everywhere

with so much to eat and so much to talk

........  time is a problem - Fr. Coogan seems to say

For us eating is no problem - see we
don't leave any food on our plates

Let me think first - what  I am going to say

Don't worry - it will come authomatically - just
smile

I remember - I fell into the river as
I rushed to school - no big deal - I was
a good swimmer

Or if you run out of topics - you can sing
your hearts out

Or concentrate on your food - looks like
they are having KFC - yummy! yummy!

This is the way - it should be done

I agree

True

Well - another option is dancing - as MC - I
know - no function is complete without people
taking to the floor

We are also thinking the same thing

We are ready to go

And the senior citizens lead the way

I am waiting for  the next dance - I hope it's
something slow

Trying to remember the dance steps

                                              Hope the next one
                                                will be the Twist

Special Edition on the Official Launching of the St. Joseph's Alumni Association Papar Website this evening, 19 December on the occasion of its 26th Anniversary and Reunion Dinner at the Grand Port View Restaurant, Kota Kinabalu.

Ir. John Anthony, Alumni's President
          giving his speech

Good Evening
Welcome to our Alumni’s 26th Anniversary and Reunion Dinner 2009. The theme ‘Together Again‘ is very appropriate because it shows that tonight, we have the opportunity to be together once more. And what does ‘Together’ mean? According to the dictionary, it means ‘Union’ or ‘United’.

It is the most important thing at this moment, our union with each other. Meeting old classmates and friends. And at the same time, enjoying a good dinner. Some Josephians have coined this sayings, ‘Fantastic! Catching three birds with one hand’ Meaning, we have fellowship, a tasty meal and also have them in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

On a more sober note, the Alumni as I have mentioned in my Souvenir Message is currently on a Membership Drive. So don’t miss this chance! By becoming a Life Member, you also have the opportunity to be a permanent part of the Josephian family. Able to further help the Association in making our alma mater, St. Joseph, ‘A school second to none’.

One significant milestone we have reached is that our Alumni is now online. We have our own website. And this was made possible by Mr. Adrian Majaham, our hard working Secretary. A big thank you, to him.It is dedicated to all Josephians. And its objective is to provide information, news and views, etc. of what is happening at the Alumni and outside. If you have any documents, pictures and others related to past or present activities of St. Joseph, kindly extend a copy to the Association. Shortly, our Patron, YB Datuk Hj. Abdul Rahim Ismail's representative, Mr. Albert Tien will officially launch it.

Our warmest thanks also goes to YB Datuk for taking great interest in the activities of the Alumni. To all the Companies, Associations, Principal of St, Joseph, entertainers, singers and dancers including individuals who has been our source of support. Thank you for your generosity.

To Reverend Fr. Coogan from England, ex-Principal of St. Joseph’s Papar, thank you for sharing this precious moment with us.

To the members of the organizing committee under the capable hands of Mr, Thomas Chong and Mr. Stephen Chai repectively, you have done a wonderful job.

Lastly to all Josephians and our supporters, you make it happened. Wishing you, happy reunion 2009 and have a pleasant evening. Thank you

The President’s Message at the soft launching of the blog

This blog is dedicated to the members of the alumni. It is hoped that with the setting up of this site, members will be able to get information regarding the activities of the association etc. online. Please feel free to submit old school photographs, documents etc. including your suggestions or comments. We will publish them. We therefore welcome your visits, the more frequent the better. In conclusion, on behalf of my exco members and myself, I wish all of you a happy harvest festival 2009

Ir. John Anthony
President

Speech Of Guest Of Honour – YB Datuk Hj. Abdul Rahim Ismail
His speech was delivered by Mr. Albert Tien, his representative

Good evening

It is indeed a great disappointment for me not to be able to be with you tonight to renew old friendship and to build new ones. ‘Together Again’ is the right word to describe what is happening here, at this very moment. The unity of all Josephians is a source of strength which is reflected very clearly tonight by your attendance.

It can be used positively to help our Alma Mater, St. Joseph’s School become an educational institution of ‘Excellence’ And the vehicle, helping to achieve this is the Alumni. So by becoming Life Members of this Association, you are in fact, a part of the force to make this, a reality.

A very exciting news and an achievement indeed is what Ir. John Anthony the President of the Association just said. St. Joseph is now online. It has got its own website. With this, the Alumni can reach the world and vice versa. Nearer home, to sustain its continued growth, as I mentioned earlier, Josephians should all become life members of the Association.

And this is again, borne out by the fact that it is not only in the field of academics that St. Joseph’s school has excelled but also in social activities
where it has won prizes in the ‘Kid Witness News Team’, coming in as 2nd Runner up for the 5-minute video under the Malaysian Short Film Contest organised by Panasonic at National Level. And 1st Runner up in the State’s School Choir Competition.

As Josephians, there are so many things that we can be proud of, and I have mentioned only a few tonight. And one of them is paying tribute to Reverend Coogan, former Principal of St.Joseph’s for his invaluable service to the school.

Finally, tonight is yours, to talk not only about your school days but also
to catch up with your classmates and friends on their present situation.

My best wishes to each and everyone of you. Have a relaxing evening.

Thank you

H A P P E N I N G S

Selamat Hari Raya 2009 ( 20th September )
On this auspicious occasion, the President, Ir. John Anthony and Exco members wish all Josephians, Selamat Hari Raya. May it bring you peace and joy.

President, Ir. John Anthony, front, 3rd from right together with Exco members

First Meeting Of The Year ( 2009 )

The president, Ir. John Anthony is thinking - what to say?

Hmm,Hmm - anything special!

Is it something new?

Must concentrate!

Check first!

What shall I say?

Must write down!

St. Joseph's School Alumni Association Papar had its first meeting of the year (2009) on 12 June 2009.
The association's president, Ir. John Anthony in his opening speech amongst others, reminded members to campaign hard to get ex-students of St. Joseph to become members of the association. This was important in order to put it in a sound position. Also it would make it easier for the alumni to achieve its goal. And in this regard, awareness programme like putting it on the asscociation's blog ( which has already been done ) would draw the attention of the ex-students concerned. And for their conveniences, the membership form has also been displayed on the alumni's website so they can easily download it.

A membership card is being designed with the intention of enabling an individual to identify himself to other parties that he is a member of SJAAP. The draft design will be simple with a logo and brief particulars of his person on the reverse side. And Mr. Adrian M.D.Majaham has been assigned together with Ms Mary Ho to do this. The committee will then make a decision whether to implement this proposal.

Another suggestion is for the association's website to post articles on prominent ex-Josephians. This will require interviews to be carried out or prepared questions to be forwarded to the individuals concerned.

Further Details
More details will be given after the next meeting.

Joke
The Man Who Loved Beans

Once upon a time, there lived a man who had a terrible
passion for baked beans. He loved them, but they always
had an embarrassing and somewhat lively reaction on him.
One day, he met a girl and fell in love.

When it was apparent that they would marry, he thought
to himself, "She'll never go through with the marriage
with me carrying on like this" so he made the supreme
sacrifice and gave up beans. Shortly after that they were married.

A few months later, on the way home from work, his car broke down and since they lived in the country, he telephoned his wife and told her that he would be late because he had to walk.

On his way home, he passed a small cafe and the wonderful aroma of baked beans overwhelmed him. Since he still had several miles to walk he thought he would walk off any ill effects before he got home. So he went in and ordered three extra large helpings of beans.

All the way home he farted. By the time he arrived home
he felt reasonably safe. His wife met him at the door and
seemed somewhat excited. She exclaimed, "Darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for you for dinner tonight!"

She put a blindfold on him and led him to his chair at the
head of the table and made him promise not to peek.
At this point he was beginning to feel another fart coming on.

Just as his wife was about to remove the blindfold,
the phone rang. She again made him promise not to peek until she returned and went to answer the phone.

While she was gone, he seized the opportunity. He shifted his weight to one leg and let go. It was not only loud, but ripe as a rotten egg. He had a hard time breathing, so he felt for his napkin and fanned the air about him.

He had just started to feel better when another urge came on. He raised his leg andrriiipppp! It sounded like a diesel engine revving and smelled worse. To keep himself from gagging, he tried fanning his arms a while, hoping the smell would dissipate.

Things had just about returned to normal when he felt another urge coming. He shifted his weight to his other leg and let go. This was a real blue ribbon winner; the windows shook, the dishes on the table rattled and a minute later the flowers on the table were dead.

While keeping an ear tuned in on the conversation in the hallway, and keeping his promise of staying blindfolded, he carried on like this for the next 10 minutes, farting and then fanning each time with his napkin. When he heard the phone farewells (indicating the end of his loneliness and freedom) he neatly laid his napkin on his lap and folded his hands on top of it.

Smiling contentedly, he was the picture of innocence when
his wife walked in. Apologizing for taking so long, she asked if he had peeked at the dinner table. After assuring
her he had not peeked, she removed the blindfold and yelled, "SURPRISE!" To his shock and horror, there were twelve dinner guests seated around the table for his surprise birthday party.

Wise Sayings
If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.

Alumni’s Annual General Meeting (AGM)
On Sunday 3 May 2009 ( at 7.00 pm ), the Alumni held its AGM at the Grow Ball Restaurant, 5 Floor, Centre Point, Kota Kinabalu. There were enough members to meet the quorum. Of course more members should attend the meeting and they would be most welcome. It was not an election year AGM ( as election would only be held on the second year—the tenure for the existing office bearers is two years ).

The president. Ir. John Anthony in action
The president, Ir. John Anthony welcomed all the members present and thanked them for sacrificing their time on this Sunday evening. It shows their interest in wanting to know the Alumni’s activities for the year 2008. The president also went on to give the report concerned ( see the full details below). Among others he also mentioned the roles that they could play in helping their alma mater. Speaking for himself on the AOB ( Any other business ) the president said that if not for St. Joseph’s School, he would not be where he is now( Director of Public Works Department ). It was also suggested by a member that a new approach should be used to attract new membership. Another was to issue a credit like card to those who became life members of the Association. Including the putting up of a blog. The president responded that a panel would be setup to study these proposals. At the conclusion of the meeting, the president once again thanked all the members for their attendance. Buffet dinner was served. Followed by a karaoke session and fellowship.

President’s Report In Full ( AGM 2009)
First of all, I would like to welcome you to our AGM 2009 and thank you for your presence tonight. The meeting tonight is in pursuant to Article No. 7. Section ( 1 ) of the Constitution. The current committee starts their tenure with the following objectives:
· To increase membership of the association
· To improve the financial position of the association by organizing fund-raising activities
· To assist our Alma Mater
· To assist the development of realizing a new St. Joseph Secondary School Complex
The association continues to create awareness among members of the alumni of the need to come forward to support the association. A reunion dinner ( Silver Jubilee cum Installation ) was held on 31 October 2008 at the Promenade Hotel, Kota Kinabalu. The tremendous support by ex-students and life members were shown by the fact that forty tables were utilized for the dinner. Unfortunately only seven ex-students enrolled as life members. I hope in tonight’s AGM, more ex-students would come forward to enroll as life members. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us.

Is it that big !!!
Is the president exercising!!! What’s the president saying !!! What the president said is true?

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. So here are the proofs. This is what happened at the AGM. It is not serious business all the time. There were singing a la karaoke style ably arranged by our social secretary Ms Mary Ho. The food were delicious and we have to thank our vice president, Mr. Kong Tsen Pean for that.

So till the next issue, stay happy, stay healthy and always look at the funny side of life

Yes, There is

I thought for a moment, then said "You know, I don't mean this offensively, but you don't know the carburretor from the accelerator." "No, there's definitely water in the carburetor," she insisted. "OK Honey, that's fine, I'll just go take a look. Where is it?" "In the lake."

President’s New Year Message

On behalf of our Exco members and myself, I wish all of you a very happy and prosperous New Year 2009 though made belatedly, it is the thought that counts. The prospect for the year does not appear to be very good but with hardwork and determination we will surely overcome whatever challenges we are faced with, including the current global recession. In the end it is us who will determine the outcome. The final result might still be growth and development as the financial situation is very fluid and changes daily.

We in the Alumni are trying our best to fulfill the promises that are within our ability to implement. One of them is the Josephians’ Directory which will contain relevant information to help members to network with each other. And we might start modestly initially and try to improve as we move along. The other is to build a new St. Joseph’s Secondary School fully equipped with modern amenities. This project may take longer to realize. But the first step need to be taken. We are thinking of the best way to do it. Once again, our best wishes to you in your respective endeavours. May it bring you success.

Ir. John Anthony

Visit To Istana

Alumni’s President And Exco members Visit To The Istana During Hari Raya 2008.
The President and Exco members visited the Istana to wish TYT and his consort ’ Selamat Hari Raya’.It was a great honour to do so personally. Other associations were also taking the opportunity to do the same. The visit was co-ordinated by Ybhg. Datuk Terence Chong. See picture above.

Visit To Holy Family Home Kg. Purak Papar

The Alumni’s President and Exco members visited the Holy Family Home at Kg. Purak Papar on 13 December 2008 to bring Christmas and Chinese New Year joy to the residents. Donation in the form of daily necessities were made and members also prepared a delicious lunch which the old folks enjoyed very much. After the lunch the inmates were entertained by the visitors to an impromptu caroling. Singing traditional Christmas songs, everyone was teary eye remembering the good old times with family members and friends. The alumni’s members had the chance of talking with Rev. Fr. Dapoz who is also staying in the home. His faculty is still very good. He can recollect past events very clearly. All good things have to end, we sadly left at 12.00 noon. See picture above.

Visit To Archbishop's John Lee Open House

The Alumni also paid a visit to his grace Archbishop John Lee’s Christmas open house on 25 December 2008 to convey to him the Alumni’s good wishes. It was a happy occasion for all the members to see other groups there. And have the opportunity at the same time to talk with friends. Exchanging pleasantries. Finding out what thay have been doing all these years. Food was plentiful with the Sacred Heart’s Woman league continuously replenishing the dishes. Streams of wellwishers kept on coming. The Archbishop was in a cheerful mood and kept on obliging visitors who wanted to take photographs with him. The Alumni’s members also didn’t want to miss this golden chance to take a snapshot with his grace. The visit was co-ordinated by Ybhg. Datuk Terence Chong. See picture above.

A goal properly set is halfway reached.
