Alumni's visit to Papar on 12 November 2009 led by its President, Ir. John Anthony to give motivational talk to the students of St. Joseph who were sitting for their SPM examination, the following week.
He gave a spirited and awe inspiring talk to encourage the students to do well because it will determine whether their future will be bright or not. Ir. John also shared his personal experience. He was where he was now, as the State Director of Public Works Department, Sabah due to the success of his secondary education at St. Joseph's.
Immediate Past President, Datuk Terence Chong also motivated the students to aim for the sky.
Nothing was impossible as long as they focussed on their dreams by achieving success in their studies and in their job, profession or enterprise. However, ultimately the choice were theirs to make.
Earlier, the Principal, Ms. Gertrude Jock thanked the Alumni's President, Ir. John Anthony and his group for taking time to visit the students and to give them encouragement in their examination. She also told the students that the teachers has given their best. And now it is up to them, to do well individually and also for the school. At the same time, she informed the visitors the school's achievement in winning third place in the Panosonic School Short Film Contest at the national level and second position School Choir Competition at the state level amongst others.
In response, the Students Representative, Preeveenraj a/l Thevaraj promised they would take advantage of what they have learnt to get excellent result. He thanked the Principal and the teachers for their dedication in helping them to prepare well for the SPM. Preevenraj also said that the students also appreciated the motivation given by the Alumni's President, Ir. John Anthony and Datuk Terence Chong.
The other purpose of the mission was to recruit the SPM students to become members of the Association before they leave St. Joseph. This was the brainchild of Mr. Kong Tsen Pean, the Alumni's Vice President. More than one hundred students were recruited.
At the end of this exciting session, the President and members of the Association had lunch with the Principal, teachers and students. The entourage were made up of Ir. John Anthony(President), Mr. Kong Tsen Pea (Vice President), Datuk Terence Chong(Immediate Past President), Mr. Albert Tien(Advisor), Ms. Mary Ho(Social Secretary), Mr. Adrian M.D. Majaham(Publicity Secretary), Mr. Thomas Chong(Member), Datin Margaret Chong(Member) and Ms. Irene Mah(Member).
